Mosel Rieslings of
MARKUS MOLITOR
Romanee's Kitchen
16 May 2005
(with guest Ms. Anna Thoma of Markus Molitor)

Markus Molitor is a young man with lofty ambitions. He inherited the family vineyards and went about, immediately, to expand his holdings of quality vineyard sites. Now, he has no less than 12 vineyard plots all over the Mosel & one at Saar. All work is done by-hand and the selected musts are fermented in oak casks instead of stainless steel to add complexity to his wines ....... and it shows. He is now acknowledged as a rising star where the firmament include JJ Prum, Dr. Loosen & Egon Muller.
For this match with modern Cantonese cuisine, we presented 3 Rieslings at different QmP levels - Kabinett Trocken, Spaetlese and Auslese. The 4th wine is a Pinot Noir made from a blend of Dijon clones rather than German clones and it shows. All 4 wines took to the dishes like duck to water. These ethereal wines at just around 11% alcohol simply lifted the six-courses to new heights! The group's favourite was the Riesling Spaetlese Feinherb 2003, with a fine balance of acidity, minerality & sweetness matched by heavenly aromas of white fruits. Look for it at our ONLINE offerings.
Fiera de Vino Espana
STREETERS
10 May 2005

The range of Spanish wines at this & our earlier events are available at our ONLINE section. They came, they sipped & drank and they brought back to enjoy again. Such are the attraction of Spanish wines. Their inherent savouriness is an excellent match with many kinds of food, besides Spanish cuisine. The array of different flavours of tapas (similar to the range of flavours in Chinese Banquets) poses no clash with these wines. They just seem to adapt to the lightness of fish or seafood or stand up to red meat sauces supported by their firm supple structure. This select group sampled through Spanish wines from different DOCs, both traditional & up-coming, and went away impressed by the broad range of flavours & nuances. These included wines from different sub-regions of La Rioja, Somontano, Rias Baixas, Catalunya & Montilla Moriles.
