VINITALY is fast becoming the largest wine trade show in the world. Held each year during April, the milder weather (~10deg C) is conducive to heavy wine sampling & easy business discussions. Wines are at ideal ambient temperatures & the historic setting of Verona as a culinary centre of Italy adds to the overall atmosphere of doing business or simply enjoying the offerings.
In conjunction with this Trade Only event at the World Trade Centre, the wine enthusiast is not left out. "Vinitaly for You" is a street event held on the historic streets & piazzas of Verona, where wine & food programmes are organised for the wine consumer to enjoy. Here, everyone interested in food & wine are welcome to participate in the celebration of wine that is VINITALY.
Prior to the actual show, behind the scenes work are already being done. The Concorso Enologico Internazionale, a wine competition held before the main event is held from 24 March. An international JURY of wine experts are expected to judge & award honours to about 3,500 wines in 22 categories. The awards list will be announced during VINITALY, allowing trade visitors to pay special attention to the award winners in their business decisions.
Remie Law of HappyVines.com is honoured to be invited to join the JURY of Concorso Enologico Internazionale for Vinitaly 2004, to offer an Asian palate perspective. This presents a fantastic opportunity to witness & participate in an international judging of wines from around the world. Remie feels that he is well prepared for this hectic task, having participated in the judging at both Singapore International Wine Challenges organised by Mr. Robert Joseph of The International Wine Challenge.
Besides the Concorso Enologico Internazionale, Remie will also attend a programme of seminars held during this period.
In his usual frank writing style, Remie will record his impressions of these activities & recommend wines discovered in this very exciting wine country. He will introduce the local cuisine & the bistros serving them up. He will record his feelings towards the most famous balcony of Juliet, purportedly located in this historic city of Verona.
Please take this opportunity to join him in this journey of discoveries, all held in one tiny part of North-Central Italy.
