report by Remie Law in Verona, Italy
Verona - The Stately City
Most people visit the 3 main cities of Italy, viz. Rome, Florence and Venice. However, one should take some extra time to explore the less touristic cities like Verona. Barring the unlikely legend of Romeo & Juliet, the focus of visitors seeking romance, Verona is a wonderful city to visit for a few days. This is an affluent region rich in industry & agricultural produce. Rice, wheat, corn & kiwifruit are cultivated in abundance, making rice & polenta the staple diet. Then, of course, a rich winemaking culture showing off fine wines like Amarone, Valpolicella, Prosecco, Soave and other classical varietals like Cabernet Franc & Merlot. The range of wines & the rich & varied cuisine of Veneto are noted in other pages of this journal.
Here, we focus on the sights of city & its people, in an animated gif file (1MB) that will take about 2 minutes to download. Here are views of the well-preserved Roman Arena, which hosts immense operatic productions each summer, the main shopping mall & open-air market, the latest fashions, gelato & street musicians. Here you see the great fortification of Castelvecchio that spans the River Adige and the Residences of Verona's wealthy. Stately churches during Palm Sunday service, mansion hotels & restaurant canopy.
Do take the time to download ......... & dream .............
